Black rice also know as The Forbidden Rice.
In Tamil, it is called as "Karuppu Kavuni" arisi.
The black rice is called as Kings of Rice because of its nutrional values.
45 grams of uncooked back rice has:
Calories: 160
Fat: 1.5 grams
Protein: 4 grams
Carbs: 34 grams
Fiber: 1 gram
Iron: 6% of the Daily Value (DV)
While comparing the nutritional value with other kind of rices, protein and fiber content is very high in this.
This rice is balck in coolr because if an antioxidant called as "Anthocyanin" which is responsible for color of brinjal, purple cabbage etc.,
This helps in preventing one from developing chronic diseases such as heart diseases, obesity etc.,
Thus it is a very good replacement for regular polished rice.
The most important part is that the carb present in the black rice is complex in nature which takes more time to breakdown and digest while comparing with the regular rice which has simple carbs because of polishing process which is carried out.
The name forbidden came from the fact that the Chinese royal family banned this for public usage because of its limited production and high nutritional values.
COming to the taste, this rice does taste very good, not bad as you think. If you don't want to take it as the replacement you can take as sweets, porridge etc.,
So people, this is a rare kind of rice which has come into the market again with no possible adulteration, so don't hesitate to give it a try.
