RAM often referred as Lord Ram. A misunderstood Prince - Honest - Law abiding - Man of few words - A great King turned into a God later.
The book begins with abduction of Sita from forests of Sapt Sindhu by Raavan while Ram and Lakshman were away from the camps for fetching the food for the day.
Later the birth and brought up of Ram is narrated. The birth of Ram was considered as a curse by King Dhasarath (king of Ayodhya and father of Ram, Lakshman, Bharath and Sathrugan) because his birth accompanied by the greatest defeat of Dhasarath by Raavan capturing the trade status and routes of Sapt Sindhu. Thus Ram was never acknowledged by Dhasarath until he has to prove himself.
Ram and Lakshman making the perfect brothers duo were trained by Guru Vashishta, a Vayuputhra supporter. Ram grew upto a perfect rule abiding, absolutely honest and a great soldier while exceptional bow and arrow skills while Lakshman grew upto a practical and a great warrior.
Their gurukula education was done and they returned to Ayodhya, where Ram's crowning as king was slated as Dhasarath was in bad health. While a few days away from crownig ceremony, Guru Vishwamithra took Ram and Lakshman on DigVijay for looking and understanding the real status of people in and around Sapt Sindhu. This helped Ram to really understand the need of his people.
On this journey of DigVijay, Guru Vishwamithra took Ram and Lakshman for attending Sita's swayamvar, where Ram met Sita for first time one day prior to Swayamvar and fell in love with her instantly so did Sita on seeing Ram. While this happens, Lakshman falls in love with Urmila (Sita's sister).
On the day of Swayamvar, Ram was the first one to participate in the action of lifting Pinaka (Scared Bow belonging to Lord Rudra) and arrow the target. While the announcement happens for calling out Ram, the entry of Raavan happens. Raavan was invited by Kushadwaj (chacha of Sita), clearly his presence was not liked by anyone in the Swayamvar hall. Raavan was insulted for being present and he leaves the scene instantly while Ram comes to Swayamvar stage to perform the action. Raavan leaves the hall and as expected Ram does the action perfectly winning Swayamvar and Sita to be his wife. The wedding of Ram and Sita was scheduled same afternoon while Sita insisted on finishing the wedding of Lakshman and Urmila on the same date and time.
On the wedding night, while Ram and Sita were having dinner, insulted Raavan plans on attacking Mithila the same night with his troop of 10,000 men. Mithilan army is heavily out-numbered to be just 3,500 men. In the onset of attacks, Sita proved to be an abled Prime Minister of Mithila.
But still Mithilans were outnumbered, Vishwamithra has an idea of fighting Raavan by using Asuraastra. But Sita denied it stating that the use of Asuraastra is banned by Vaayuputras, it cannot be used by anyone without Vaayuputra's approval, on unauthorized usage, one have to carry out 14 years of excile. But Vishwamithra convinved Ram to use it against Raavan's troop without Sita's consent. Thus Ram fired Asuraastra which left Raavan's troop incapabilized (not killed), leaving Ram breaking a greatest law. But still Raavan escaped and Pushpak Viman took off the site.
This remained the reason for Ram, Lakshman and Sita's excile for 14 years away from the borders of Sapt Sindhu. While the excile period coming to end with the play of Surpanaka (Raavan's sister), Sita was abducted by Raavan and Ram standing there helpless. This was the ending of the book 1.
Ram by his incomparable ability of following rules and laws made Ayodha a land of Dharma and Honesty, thus turning Ayodhya into a greatly abled Ram Rajya.
He was a normal man of royal lineage turning into a great King and A God of all times, How?
I would answer this question in my final post of Ram Chandra Series book.
PS: Scion means a new hope. Ikshvaku is the one who found Suryavanshis/Sapt Sindhu.
